Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston is seeking a professional Medical Interpreter to facilitate multilingual patient and family communications across the care continuum.

You will provide sight and written translation of pre-operative, discharge, and education materials; coordinate interpreter services; and support LEP patients in navigating departments and appointments. Certification is required, with NB certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Medical Interpreter Certificate is required.
• National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mediator to enhance communication between staff and patients/family in medical care.
• Keep accurate documentation of interpretation encounters with location, duration, and purpose.
• Provide coordination and staff training on telephone language interpretation services.
• Answer calls promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly, professional manner.
• Assist with appointment reminders and scheduling interpreters for assignments.
• Help LEP patients navigate the hospital, find departments, and access services.
• Place outbound calls to confirm appointment dates and times.
• May be required to handle on-call interpretation requests at night and on weekends.
