Job summary

Harborview Medical Center's Interpreter Services Department is seeking a Medical Interpreter I, Spanish, for day shifts. The role enables access to medical care and supports language access for patients across a regional care system.

Responsibilities include interpreting orally, by sight, and in writing; facilitating direct communication between patients and clinicians; handling cross-cultural complexities; providing sight translations; and assisting patients with forms.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent AND two years interpretation experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
• Certification from Washington State D DHS, NBCMI, or CCHI is required.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute except when a license or certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide oral, sight and written interpretation for Spanish and other target language(s).
• Transmit information accurately between patient and provider or staff.
• Encourage direct communication between patient and provider or staff.
• Manage complexity of cross-cultural encounters.
• Provide sight translation in presence of provider/staff.
• Assist patients to complete medical, financial, or other forms.
