Harborview Medical Center's Interpreter Services Department is seeking a Medical Interpreter 1, Spanish, for per-diem day shifts to help patients access care. This role supports a team dedicated to improving language access and patient communication across clinical encounters.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years interpretation experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
• Medical interpreter certification or qualification from Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, or the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.

Responsibilities

• Provide oral, sight and written interpretation for target language(s).
• Transmit information accurately between patient and provider or staff.
• Encourage direct communication between patient and provider or staff.
• Manage complexity of cross-cultural encounter.
• Provide sight translation in the presence of a provider and/or other medical staff.
• Assist patients to complete medical, financial, or other forms.
