Job summary

Harborview Medical Center’s Interpreter Services is seeking a Medical Interpreter 1, Spanish, for Per-Diem Day Shift to help patients access care and ensure clear communication across cultures. This position supports Harborview and UW Medicine in delivering equitable language services.

Responsibilities include oral, sight, and written interpretation, accurate information transmission between patients and providers, and assistance with form completion.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent AND two years interpretation experience in a clinic or hospital setting
• Certification/qualification as medical interpreter from Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, NBCMI, or CCHI
• Equivalent education or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except where legal requirements apply

Responsibilities

• Provide oral, sight and written interpretation for target language(s)
• Transmit information accurately between patient and provider or staff
• Encourage direct communication between patient and provider or staff
• Manage complexity of cross-cultural encounter
• Provide sight translation in the presence of a provider and/or other medical staff
• Assist patients to complete medical, financial, or other forms
