Spanish Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool)

State Center Community College District and Madera Community College are committed to hiring an equity‑mindset faculty member to teach Spanish courses. The role supports diverse student populations through culturally responsive instruction and collaboration with faculty and staff.

Essential Functions of Position
  • Teach a part‑time schedule of Spanish courses as assigned;
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems, including innovative uses of technology for face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats;
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adhering to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record;
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc. in keeping with course objectives;
  • Provide course syllabi to students;
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with district policy;
  • Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner;
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed;
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as they relate to equity‑mindset practice in the classroom;
  • Either: Master’s in Spanish; or Bachelor’s in Spanish and a Master’s in another language or linguistics; or valid California Community College Credential; or equivalent education and/or experience (requires equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/PI, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of historical exclusion patterns;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities;
  • Experience supporting traditionally underrepresented populations, such as students of color and foster youth, and supporting diversity across sociocultural and socioeconomic lines;
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds;
  • Experience with under‑prepared and high‑need students in community college settings;
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support, and student success;
  • Proficiency with computers and technologies used for high‑quality instruction and support;
  • Effective communication with students and staff;
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

  • Understand the importance of holding educators accountable for closing equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices;
  • Reframe inequities as a problem of practice and view their elimination as an individual and collective responsibility;
  • Encourage positive race‑consciousness and embrace human difference;
  • Support institutional practices that develop and sustain culturally responsive teaching environments;
  • Build support for and participation in equity‑related initiatives across internal and external communities.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule;
  • Salary placement is based on education and experience, as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications;
  • Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
Selection Procedure

The selection and hiring process is governed by the hiring department. If selected, the department will contact applicants directly for interviews. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis; applicants remain in the pool for 18 months and may reapply if not selected.
