English Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool)

Madera Community College at Oakhurst seeks an equity‑minded leader to provide instruction in English. The instructor will teach a part‑time schedule and integrate technology and innovative pedagogies across face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.

Responsibilities

• Teach part‑time English courses as assigned.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems, including innovative uses of technology.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adherence to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc. in keeping with course objectives.
• Provide course syllabi to students.
• Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports timely.
• Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
• Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition; or Bachelor’s in any of the above and Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism; or a valid California Community College Credential; or equivalent education and/or experience (requires equivalency).

• Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all responsibilities.
• Recent experience working with underrepresented student populations.
• Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better engage racially minoritized students.
• Related work and professional experience.
• Experience with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
• Experience facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication.
• Experience with under‑prepared and high‑need students.
• Demonstrated ability and desire to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support, and student success.
• Proficiency with computers and technologies used for high‑quality instruction.
• Effective communication with students and staff.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
• Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.

Selection Procedure

The selection and hiring process for part‑time faculty positions is governed by the hiring department. Salary and Benefits

• Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
• Salary classification placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
• Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
