Job summary

State Center Community College District is seeking a Political Science Instructor to join its Madera Campus pool for part‑time teaching assignments. The role involves delivering courses in political science to a diverse student body, utilizing varied instructional methods and technology, and maintaining accurate records.

Successful candidates will have a Master’s degree in political science or related fields or equivalent qualifications and demonstrate commitment to inclusive teaching practices.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in political science, government, or international relations; or a Bachelor’s degree in one of those fields and a Master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, or an ethnic studies field; or a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.); or a valid California Community College Credential; or an equivalent education and/or experience acknowledged by equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Teach a part‑time schedule of Political Science courses as assigned.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems, including innovative and creative uses of technology for face‑to‑face, online and hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
• Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adhering to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record.
• Evaluate student progress through tests and examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc. in keeping with course objectives.
• Provide course syllabi to students.
• Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
• Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122 and other duties as assigned.

Education

Minimum Qualifications

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Master’s degree in political science, government, or international relations; or a Bachelor’s degree in one of those fields and a Master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, or an ethnic studies field; or a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.); or a valid California Community College Credential; or an equivalent education and/or experience acknowledged by equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into instructional practice.
• Recent experience working with African American, Asian Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American and other racially minoritized students and understanding historical patterns of exclusion in higher education.
• Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to engage and support racially minoritized students.
• Experience with multicultural and cross‑cultural communication and sensitivity to diverse student populations.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
• Computer and technology proficiency needed for high‑quality instruction.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials, and of the community college mission and goals.

Salary and Benefits

• Newly hired part‑time faculty placed on step one of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
• Salary classification based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
• Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours.

Selection Procedure
