Job summary

North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Morganton campus, seeks an Instructor of Spanish and French for a full-time, ten-month EHRA Faculty appointment. You will teach in-person courses, develop proficiency-based curricula, and support residential and online programs.

Requirements include a Master’s degree in Spanish or French (or related field) and demonstrated high-level language proficiency; experience with heritage speakers is a plus.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Spanish, French, second language acquisition (TESOL/ESOL/ESL).
• Language proficiency in both Spanish and French.
• Proficiency demonstrated by native speaker status, degree, certificate, or official tests (ACTFL Advanced-High or higher, CEFR C1 or higher).
• Expertise with pedagogy in French and Spanish language instruction at high school or undergraduate level.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3 in-person residential courses in Spanish and French per semester and two two-week January Term courses.
• Develop multi-level, proficiency-based curricula for varying proficiencies, including heritage speakers.
• Teach language and culture curricula for NCSSM’s residential and online programs.
• Mentor students in classroom and extracurricular activities; participate in meetings and committees.
• Utilize educational technology for face-to-face and remote learning; support department goals.
