Job summary

Blue Origin in the United States is seeking a structural analysis engineer to join the Blue Ring Structures & Mechanisms IPT. The role focuses on performing FEA and hand calculations for orbital vehicle structures, collaborating with design engineers to optimize weight, strength, and manufacturability.

Minimum qualifications include a BS in engineering and 3+ years in vehicle structures analysis, with experience in ABAQUS or HyperWorks. Relocation is provided for this position.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil).
• 3+ years in vehicle structures or mechanisms analysis.
• Familiarity with classical strength analysis methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, Shigley).
• Ability to build free-body diagrams for load derivation.
• Experience with FEM packages (ABAQUS or HyperWorks).
• Strong FEM modeling knowledge: boundary conditions, bolted connections, contact, elastic and elastoplastic analysis.
• Ability to earn trust and contribute to an inclusive culture.
• U.S. citizen or eligible work status per policy.

Responsibilities

• Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hand calculations for orbital vehicle structures and mechanisms.
• Collaborate with design engineers to optimize structural designs for weight, strength, and manufacturability.
• Document structural analysis to support release of drawings and formal documentation.
• Provide technical guidance on design concepts, balancing risk, cost, and performance.
• Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status.
• Support other teams and inputs for configuration development and trade studies.
