Job summary

KBR, Inc. in El Segundo, California, seeks a Strategic Interfaces Systems Engineer to develop and manage ICDs for cross-system interfaces between space and ground segments, aligning with cybersecurity baselines and program standards.

The role requires 8+ years in satellite systems or aerospace, DoD experience, and strong technical writing. On-site work with a potential SECRET clearance, collaborating with Space Force and prime contractors, ensures national security goals are advanced.

Qualifications

• Secret clearance required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, CS, or related field.
• 8+ years in satellite systems, spacecraft development, or aerospace engineering.
• 5 years on DoD programs.
• Experience with ICDs for complex systems.
• Familiarity with spacecraft subsystems (payloads, RF, power, GNC, thermal, propulsion).
• Ability to read/create schematics, interface diagrams, data communication structures.
• Experience with SE tools (DOORS, Cameo).

Responsibilities

• Develop, author, and maintain ICDs for cross-system interfaces between space and ground segments.
• Serve as the system-level ICD owner, coordinating inputs and adjudicating comments.
• Coordinate with Configuration Management for ERBs and CCBs.
• Develop interface diagrams, data dictionaries, message formats, and mappings.
• Identify interface risks and drive issue resolution across teams.
• Support system integration and test with authoritative interface documentation.
• Ensure documentation complies with standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provide SME support to review Prime contract changes.
• Manage Interface Working Groups and stakeholder communications.
• Coordinate with MSEIT modeling to align models with ICDs and requirements flowdown.
• Prepare acquisition and technical briefings and papers for Gov’t decisions.
• Collaborate with primes, other contractors, and Space Force members.
