Job summary

Mclaurin Aerospace seeks a Softgoods Engineering Technologist to join the JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. You will design, develop, fabricate, and test softgoods articles for advanced space suits and related items, collaborating with engineers and designers across disciplines.

You will demonstrate hands-on fabrication expertise, create patterns, inspect drawings, and maintain facilities while supporting occasional travel to other NASA centers or contractors.

Qualifications

• This position requires a HS diploma and 5 years of experience or a BS in Engineering Technology.
• Experience in a soft goods development lab with emphasis on design and fabrication.
• Ability to devise solutions to complex design challenges independently with input from experts.
• Proficiency with CAD programs and software such as Adobe CC and MS Office.
• Experience with Illustrator, AutoCAD, and Rhino 8.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, fabricate, and test softgoods for space suits and related items.
• Work with engineers and designers to understand requirements for suited space systems.
• Present design concepts clearly and document processes and techniques.
• Take ownership of design tasks and drive projects to completion.
• Perform machine maintenance, repair, and custom modifications as needed.
• Create patterns and mockups to verify fit and function of softgoods.
• Interpret fabrication drawings to assemble sewn products and other softgoods.
• Keep lab spaces clean, organized, and well maintained.
• Occasionally travel to other NASA centers or contractors for fabrication and installation.
