Job summary

Axiom Space is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to support the design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components for the first commercial space station. The role is based onsite at our Space Station Development Facility in Webster, Texas, reporting to the Senior Manager – Structures & Mechanisms.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering, 2–6 years’ related experience, and proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, GD&T, FEA, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 2–6 years of mechanical engineering experience in mechanisms, mechatronics in space, aviation, automotive or robotics.
• Strong knowledge of static & dynamics, structural analysis, fracture control, fatigue, thermal effects, materials & lubrication.
• Experience with SOLIDWORKS 3D modeling and GD&T per ASME Y-14.5.
• Background with spaceflight hardware design and NASA standards preferred.
• Experience with FEA software packages and MATLAB & Simulink.
• Experience with Design for manufacturing, qualification & acceptance testing preferred.
• Demonstrated organization and problem-solving abilities to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components for commercial space station systems.
• Develop requirements and execute the engineering product lifecycle.
• Perform preliminary analysis using free-body diagrams, hand calculations & FEA.
• Deliver high-quality models and drawings; oversee manufacturing and assembly of hardware.
• Present findings to managers, clients, and customers; document progress and maintain engineering notebook.
