Job summary

Axiom Space is seeking a bold SME Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components for the first commercial space station. The role is based onsite at the Space Station Development Facility in Webster, TX.

You will mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, and drive rigorous engineering documentation, CAD/FEA work, and verification processes to meet NASA-like standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace/mechanical engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 12+ years of mechanical engineering experience in mechanisms or mechatronics.
• Experience with NASA standards or spaceflight hardware is preferred.
• Expertise in static/dynamics, fatigue, and thermal effects.
• Ability to translate requirements into tests and verification.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components.
• Lead design reviews and ensure documentation is peer-reviewable.
• Develop requirements from customer requests and design criteria.
• Perform preliminary analysis using FEA and hand calculations.
• Oversee manufacturing and assembly, ensuring quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across teams.
