Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL seeks a Manufacturing Engineer for Engines to design and implement efficient manufacturing systems, ensure quality control, and optimize production and supply chain processes. The role emphasizes collaboration with design, QA, and production teams to deliver reliable engines for space exploration.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in aerospace manufacturing, process documentation, and a strong background in DFM, DFA, DFT, GD&T, and BOM management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
• Experience in a manufacturing engineering role: 3+ years Level 2 Manufacturing Engineer, 5+ years Level 3 Manufacturing Engineer, 8+ years Sr Manufacturing Engineer
• 2+ years of experience creating English work instructions
• Experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace and/or automotive is preferred
• Experience with at least one of the following manufacturing processes: machining, assembly, balancing rotating hardware, non-destructive test, precision clean
• Experience in fixture design
• Experience in CNC machining: turning and multi-axis milling
• Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T
• Basic tooling or fixture design and fabrication
• Experience working with Bill-of-materials and BOM reconciliation
• Strong organizational, project management, and presentation skills (Gantt charting, JIRA tickets, MS Project, Confluence, or similar)
• Prior manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or automotive

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), design for test (DFT), key to building reliable vehicles for space exploration.
• Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes that support Blue Origin’s mission.
• Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams to accelerate building a road to space.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
• Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods (e.g., precision machining, welding, brazing, additive manufacturing, advanced assembly).
• Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances; develop and implement corrective actions that enhance reliability and performance.
• Ensure all work aligns with applicable quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001), supporting a safe and sustainable future in space.
• Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
• Apply emerging AI technologies alongside traditional manufacturing engineering tools to optimize processes, reduce cycle times, and improve first-time quality
