Job summary

Amentum seeks a Mechanical Design Chief Engineer for Space Exploration Applications to lead a large team focusing on mechanical system development for NASA programs. The role emphasizes rigorous design reviews, risk management, and cross‑organization coordination at NASA Johnson Space Center and partner sites.

Qualifications

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering with advanced degree preferred.
• 10–15 years of related experience, including NASA/JSC mechanical hardware.
• Experience with CAD tools: CREO, SolidWorks, Pro/E.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct technical oversight of ~100 engineers across mechanical system development.
• Lead design reviews for cost, schedule, risk, and deliverables adherence.
• Mentor and guide design task leads; track performance and milestones.
• Coordinate issue resolution across NASA contract organizations.
• Develop lessons learned to inform future designs and processes.
