Job summary

Vast Space Llc. in Long Beach is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for Environmental Control and Life Support Systems.

You will support development, production, and integration of fluid ECLSS hardware for human-rated space stations, working on the shop floor from first article through flight hardware. Responsibilities include defining manufacturing processes, writing work instructions, and validating through leak and functional tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science required.
• Manufacturing Engineer I: 0-2 years in manufacturing, production, test, or hardware development engineering.
• Manufacturing Engineer II: 2+ years in manufacturing, production, or test for high-reliability hardware.

Responsibilities

• Execute build, assembly, and integration of ECLSS fluid hardware on the shop floor with technicians from first article through flight hardware.
• Author, redline, and maintain work instructions, assembly procedures, build travelers, and inspection plans for ECLSS assemblies.
• Own manufacturing process definition for assigned hardware, including tubing, fittings, torques, brazed/welded joints, cleaning, and passivation.
• Support proof, leak, and functional testing of fluid assemblies, including test setup, data collection, and post-test disposition.
• Identify design for manufacturing/assembly issues during first builds; drive changes with Design Engineering.
• Dispost nonconformances and support root-cause investigation with Quality Engineering.
• Define, design, and procure tooling and fixtures for safe, repeatable builds.
• Perform fit checks, GD&T interpretation, and tolerance stack-up analysis to resolve issues.
• Track build progress, shortages, and schedule; elevate risks early.
• Train technicians on new processes; drive first-pass yield and scrap improvements.
• Support supplier readiness for externally produced ECLSS components.
