Job summary

BNY is seeking a Risk and Controls Lead to drive SOX and ICFR workstreams, performing risk assessments, walkthroughs, testing, and documentation refresh. This 4-month contract role is based in Pittsburgh with a hybrid schedule requiring 4 days in the office.

You will coordinate with control owners, Finance, Technology, and business partners, manage testing evidence, and support auditors. Strong SOX/ICFR experience and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in SOX testing, internal audit, external audit, finance controls, controllership, or risk and controls roles.
• Strong understanding of SOX, ICFR, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
• Experience conducting controls testing, leading walkthroughs, documenting processes, evaluating exceptions, and producing high-quality working papers.
• Strong auditing background with the ability to independently execute testing.
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines with strong analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• SOX / ICFR Workstream Ownership: End-to-end delivery of SOX and ICFR reviews, planning, testing, and reporting.
• Risk Assessment & Control Identification: Identify significant processes, key controls, and changes impacting financial reporting risk.
• Controls Testing: Evaluate design and operating effectiveness of key SOX controls through evidence review.
• Documentation Management: Refresh narratives, risk/control matrices, flowcharts, and inventories.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Schedule walkthroughs, obtain evidence, resolve questions, and complete testing on time.
• Issue Management & Remediation: Identify gaps, assess impact, plan remediation, validate actions.
• Audit Partnership: Liaise with internal/external auditors with clear communication.
• Management Reporting: Provide updates on progress, risks, and remediation status.
• Team Support & Coaching: Guide junior team members on testing methods and documentation.
