Job summary

Kneads Bakeshop is expanding and preparing to open a new location in Navy Yard, Washington, DC. We are seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team.

The Sous Chef will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee kitchen operations, manage food preparation, and ensure the highest standards of food quality and presentation are maintained. The Sous Chef will assist with prep, supervise staff, monitor inventory and costs, ensure health and safety compliance, and collaborate

Qualifications

• Culinary degree or equivalent preferred.
• Strong leadership abilities to motivate a diverse team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration.
• Solid understanding of kitchen operations, including prep, cooking, and equipment.
• Excellent organizational and time management in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, including preparation, cooking, and plating.
• Supervise kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow during high-volume service.
• Maintain inventory levels, monitor food costs, and minimize waste.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and food handling standards.
• Develop and execute menu items in line with the restaurant and bakery’s standards and vision.
• Ensure food is consistently prepared and presented to the highest standards.
• Collaborate with the team to create new menu items and specials.
• Train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff to improve skills and efficiency.
• Manage schedules, delegate tasks, and provide constructive feedback.
• Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
