We are hiring immediately for a SOUS CHEF position.

Location: Applied Materials, 3090 Bowers Ave, Santa Clara, CA 95054. Note: online applications accepted only.

Schedule: Full Time; Monday through Friday between 6AM to 4PM.

Details: The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, safety, and consistency, supervising and training kitchen staff, controlling costs, and maintaining safety standards. They oversee food prep, monitor inventory and control waste, enforce compliance, and collaborate with front-of-house staff. Additionally, they assist with special events and menu planning to enhance dining experiences. Step in as head chef when needed.

Requirement: 2+ years of culinary background, food safety, and hospitality experience. Strong culinary, leadership, and organizational skills. Knowledge of food safety, cost control, and menu development.

Salary Range: $68,640-73,000

Job Summary: As a Sous Chef I, you are responsible for assisting with the overall success of the food program and overseeing culinary functions. The position entails assisting in all phases of planning, ordering, inventory, and food preparation. This includes adhering to the client’s culture and guidelines, the Health Department’s regulations, and the company’s standards and expectations of food quality, freshness and presentation. The Sous Chef I also motivates, trains, develops, and directs the back of house associates preparing and cooking foods to accomplish the objectives of the operation to the satisfaction of the customers, clients, and management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in coordinating and participating in the preparation and cooking of various food items.
  2. Assists with planning and creating menus.
  3. Rolls out new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary team.
  4. Assists with managing cost controls and controlling expenditure.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. 5 years of related culinary experience including 1 year at the management level.
  2. Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations.
  3. Knowledge of food and industry trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, safety, food cost controls, and presentation.
  4. Ability to set up and distribute production sheets.
  5. Supervisory, leadership, training, management, and coaching skills.
  6. ServSafe or Department of Health Certification is preferred.
  7. Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products including Excel.
  8. Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts is preferred.
