Job description

City Experiences is seeking a Sous Chef for our operation in San Francisco.

About the Opportunity:

The successful Sous Chef, in conjunction with the Executive Chef, participates in managing back-of-the-house (BOH) cruise execution to ensure consistently high levels of quality, sanitation, service, and guest satisfaction while maintaining a high level of profitability.

  1. Schedule all port galley staff.
  2. Responsible for all ordering of products for your port, ensuring quality and competitive pricing.
  3. Complete monthly food and quarterly supply inventories.
  4. Maintain health standards and ensure operation remains in full compliance with Health Department and other relevant regulatory agencies.
  5. Assist Executive Chef in creating, costing, and maintaining menus as needed.
  6. Be available for sales managers to answer questions regarding menus and pricing.
  7. Oversee all food productions to ensure quality and consistency with products.
  8. Complete all costing sheets, purchase orders, and relevant paperwork for accounting in a timely manner.
  9. Attend weekly catering meetings.
  10. Prepare and execute food tastings as needed.
  11. Work closely with Event Managers and Food and Beverage Managers to ensure a cohesive relationship between departments and identify areas for mutual support.
  12. Greet guests, whenever present, with a smile and helpful manner.
  13. Assist the Executive Chef as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Friendly leadership style with the ability to mentor and manage a diverse team.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a high-volume restaurant, catering, or hotel kitchen with a minimum of 2 years’ managerial experience.
  • Food Handlers Certificate & Serve Safe Certificate, able to qualify for a TWIC certification.
  • A passion for food and enjoyment in staying current with food trends.
