Position Overview

Downtown French Marketplace is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our expanding team. The Sous Chef will follow recipes established by our Executive Chef, adhere to instructions from the Head Chef, and ensure the food quality and kitchen cleanliness meet high standards and health regulations.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Train staff on dish preparation, arrangement, and plating according to the menu
  2. Ensure adherence to culinary standards and health regulations
  3. Respond to customer inquiries and concerns
  4. Design new menu items based on seasonal ingredients and customer demand
  5. Manage inventory levels and record keeping
  6. Cross-train staff across multiple stations
  7. Coordinate with the head chef on food preparation
  8. Create high-quality dishes focusing on design and taste
  9. Supervise kitchen staff
  10. Assist with inventory management and supplies ordering
  11. Maintain kitchen sanitation and safety in compliance with health regulations
  12. Train new employees
  13. Order food supplies
Requirements
  1. At least 2 years of experience as a cook in a New York City restaurant
  2. Experience in a French restaurant is preferred but not required
  3. Ability to stand for long periods
  4. Good communication skills for effective teamwork and management interaction
  5. Legal eligibility to work in the United States
  6. Ability to work on multiple tasks and take directions
  7. Hardworking and team-oriented attitude
