The Sous Chef is responsible for assisting in the overall success of the daily culinary operations. This role involves leading culinary team members and managing all food-related functions to enhance guest and team member satisfaction while maximizing financial performance within the department.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Executive Chef in all kitchen operations.
- Provide guidance and leadership to team members, including setting performance standards and monitoring outcomes.
- Lead, influence, and motivate others through effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Support sound financial and business decision-making.
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity, leading by example.
- Foster mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Ensure fair and consistent application of property policies.
- Review staffing levels to meet guest service, operational, and financial goals.
- Supervise and coordinate food preparation activities.
- Showcase new cooking techniques and equipment to team members.
- Develop and enforce guidelines for purchasing and receiving procedures.
- Promote safety procedures, ensuring understanding and compliance among team members.
- Monitor the quality of raw and cooked food products to meet standards.
- Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards, including certifications.
- Improve service quality by understanding guest needs and providing coaching and feedback.
- Handle guest complaints and feedback effectively.
- Review guest satisfaction data to identify areas for improvement.
- Identify developmental needs of team members and provide coaching or mentoring.
- Train culinary staff on cooking fundamentals and presentation skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; hotel/college training preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in culinary, food and beverage, or related fields.
- Extensive knowledge of both classical and current culinary trends.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Diplomatic team player.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Creative, proactive, customer-oriented.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Strong leadership qualities.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
- Flexible schedule including days, nights, holidays, and weekends.
