The Sous Chef is responsible for assisting in the overall success of the daily culinary operations. This role involves leading culinary team members and managing all food-related functions to enhance guest and team member satisfaction while maximizing financial performance within the department.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Executive Chef in all kitchen operations.
  2. Provide guidance and leadership to team members, including setting performance standards and monitoring outcomes.
  3. Lead, influence, and motivate others through effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Support sound financial and business decision-making.
  5. Demonstrate honesty and integrity, leading by example.
  6. Foster mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  7. Ensure fair and consistent application of property policies.
  8. Review staffing levels to meet guest service, operational, and financial goals.
  9. Supervise and coordinate food preparation activities.
  10. Showcase new cooking techniques and equipment to team members.
  11. Develop and enforce guidelines for purchasing and receiving procedures.
  12. Promote safety procedures, ensuring understanding and compliance among team members.
  13. Monitor the quality of raw and cooked food products to meet standards.
  14. Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards, including certifications.
  15. Improve service quality by understanding guest needs and providing coaching and feedback.
  16. Handle guest complaints and feedback effectively.
  17. Review guest satisfaction data to identify areas for improvement.
  18. Identify developmental needs of team members and provide coaching or mentoring.
  19. Train culinary staff on cooking fundamentals and presentation skills.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; hotel/college training preferred.
  2. At least 2 years of experience in culinary, food and beverage, or related fields.
  3. Extensive knowledge of both classical and current culinary trends.
  4. Ability to work calmly under pressure.
  5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Diplomatic team player.
  7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  9. Creative, proactive, customer-oriented.
  10. Excellent time management skills.
  11. Strong leadership qualities.
  12. Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
  13. Flexible schedule including days, nights, holidays, and weekends.
