Position: Sous Chef
Downtown French Marketplace is in search of an experienced Sous Chef to bring his or her skills and expertise to our expanding team. The Sous Chef will follow the recipes established by our Executive Chef, follow instructions of the kitchen Head Chef, making sure that the food produced is of the highest quality and that the kitchen is clean and compliant with all health regulations.
Job Responsibilities:
Train new and existing kitchen staff on the preparation, arrangement, and plating of dishes per the current menu
Ensure all staff members adhere to culinary standards and regulations
Respond to customer inquiries and concerns personally
Design new menu choices based on seasonal ingredients and customer demand
Track, record and replenish inventory as needed
Cross-train kitchen staff on multiple stations
Directs food preparation and collaborates with head chef
Produces high quality plates, including both design and taste
Oversees and supervises kitchen staff
Assists with inventory and management of supplies
Ensure Department of Health regulations are being followed and that the kitchen is sanitary and safe to work in
Trains new employees
Orders food supplies
Requirements:
At least 2 years experience working as a cook in a New York City Restaurant
Experience working in a French restaurant is preferred, but not required
Able to stand for long period of time
Must have good communication skills in order to work efficiently with other staff as well as upper management
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Ability to take direction and work on multiple tasks at once
Must be hardworking and work well with others
Must be authorized to work in the United States
