Responsibilities

• Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols.
• Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by questioning current policies and processes.
• Identify and report environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
• Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner.
• Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that seem wrong.
• Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations following infection control and safety protocols.
• Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information.
• Assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the sonographic examination.
• Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the diagnostic medical sonography examination ordered by the supervising physician.
• Apply independent judgement during the sonography examination to capture appropriate anatomical findings in images.
• Refer complex diagnostic questions to the supervising physician as appropriate.
• Review examination images, synthesize results, and prepare preliminary findings for the interpreting physician.
