Pay Range: Minimum Offer $36.41, Maximum Offer $55.60

Summary

This role performs comprehensive vascular ultrasound examinations, capturing high‑quality arterial and venous imaging to assess hemodynamics and vascular function. Using advanced digital acquisition, the technologist obtains precise measurements and delivers clear, diagnostic‑ready images. They uphold the highest standards of patient safety through strict adherence to procedural protocols and clinical policies. With an established intermediate skill set, this professional is committed to continuous growth—actively expanding their expertise and progressing toward more advanced vascular procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Advanced Vascular Examinations — Independently conduct complex arterial and venous studies, applying advanced scanning techniques and expert judgment to determine when additional imaging is required.
  • Identify and Document Abnormalities — Recognize, evaluate, and thoroughly document vascular abnormalities or anomalies, ensuring complete and accurate diagnostic information.
  • Apply Expert Clinical Knowledge — Utilize advanced knowledge of vascular anatomy, pathophysiology, and ultrasound principles; demonstrate strong critical‑thinking skills to analyze findings and resolve issues during examinations.
  • Perform Routine and Specialized Procedures — Complete all routine inpatient and outpatient vascular exams and assist with OR cases as needed.
  • Ensure Accurate Clinical Documentation — Enter exam charges accurately in the EHR and initiate/assign preliminary reports in PACS.
  • Maintain Patient Safety and Communication — Prepare exam rooms and equipment according to infection‑control and safety protocols; communicate clearly and appropriately with patients based on their level of understanding.
  • Collaborate and Support Clinical Teams — Maintain timely communication with physicians and nursing units regarding results; function as a cooperative team member to meet daily workflow needs.
  • Participate in Professional Development — Advance clinical practice through seminars, workshops, and publications; maintain all hospital, departmental, and specialty competencies.
  • Contribute to Lab Operations — Serve on vascular lab committees, support compliance with Joint Commission regulations, and keep supervisors informed of operational needs or issues.
  • Mentor and Support Staff — Participate in candidate interviews; train and mentor new staff and students under the direction of the lead sonographer or supervisor.
  • Participate in Call and Research — Take part in monthly call rotations and contribute to vascular lab research protocols when applicable.
  • Perform Additional Duties — Carry out other responsibilities as assigned to support the overall function of the vascular lab.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited allied health or ultrasound program — two‑year Allied Health Training Program, Ultrasound Technology program, or bachelor’s degree in a health‑science field (e.g., cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, nursing). Vascular‑focused ultrasound education preferred.
  • Experience: Two or more years of vascular or general ultrasound experience in inpatient and/or outpatient settings or demonstrated advancement through strong competencies.
  • Licensure: New Mexico Medical Imaging & Radiation Therapy (NMRTT) license required.
  • Certifications: Current BLS certification required. ARDMS (RVT) or CCI (RVS) credential required. Candidates credentialed only in General Ultrasound must obtain RVT or RVS within one year of hire.
