Sartiano's, in the heart of SOHO, is looking for a part-time Sommelier!
Responsibilities for Sommelier
- Work with the Wine Director and Bar Team to develop product knowledge, conduct staff trainings, assist with menu updates, product rotation, ordering, storing wine, and maintaining a tidy and guest-presentable wine room.
- Assist in daily restaurant operations, exemplifying professional conduct, service standards, menu knowledge, and beverage education.
- Ensure departmental logistics efficiency, including wine sales, cellar organization, re-stocking, and deliveries.
- Monitor the quality and levels of wine glassware and decanters.
- Communicate wine availability, 86's, and new wine information to staff. Manage inventory and administrative tasks.
- Update menus with wine by the glass as needed.
- Open, taste, filter, and decant wine appropriately.
- Organize incoming wine shipments.
- Conduct weekly wine inventory.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of wine lists by glass and bottle.
- Ensure wine stocks meet pre-established par levels.
- Conduct wine training for new and existing staff.
- Recommend and sell wines and beverages to guests.
- Act as a liaison between guests and the wine list and cellar.
- Order wine to maintain inventory accuracy and support operations.
- Create and maintain guest preference notes related to wine, recording details in the Resy database.
Qualifications for Sommelier
- Minimum 3 years of restaurant experience, including at least one year in fine dining.
- Attained at least an Introductory Sommelier certification, WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent.
- Preferred: Certified Sommelier with Court of Master Sommeliers.
- Knowledge of TOAST, TripleSeat, Bevager, and Google Suite.
