Job summary

City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works is seeking a supervisor to lead crews responsible for bridges, drainage, patching, grading, cleanup, and snow/ice control within a sub-district.

The role reports to the Superintendent and requires delegation, strong communication, and knowledge of maintenance regulations. A CDL-B with air brakes is preferred and 12-hour shifts may occur during weather emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with four years of crew experience or two years supervisory experience of six or more employees.
• Ability to delegate authority and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of departmental rules, regulations and standards involving road and street maintenance.
• Knowledge of or ability to use equipment such as dump truck, backhoe, roller, bush hog, sweeper, axe, chainsaw, etc.
• Knowledge in time keeping and payroll processing.

Responsibilities

• Patrol specified area checking for surface conditions and investigate complaints.
• Plan routes, assign duties, and review the work of your crew daily.
• Verify completion of each project.
• Maintain the area including street patching, berm edges, trimming trees, clearing debris, and driving hazards from right-of-way.
