Job summary

Indianapolis Department of Public Works seeks a design management professional to oversee transportation, environmental, traffic and stormwater projects in Marion County. The role requires initiative, independent judgment, and the ability to make swift, high-impact decisions.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will ensure design work meets schedule, budget, and specifications, while maintaining confidentiality and collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or certification or five plus years of related work experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Professional Engineer license in Indiana is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Design management of local, federal, multi-modal, transportation, structural, and stormwater projects
• Design specification and plan interpretation, scheduling, and planning related to infrastructure projects
• Ensures that all design management activity is performed on schedule, within budgetary limits, and in accordance with current statutes, ordinances, specifications, and contract requirements
• Must maintain confidentiality at all times
• This list of duties may be expanded to include other duties as needed by management

Job Summary

Position responsible for overseeing projects in the design management section and providing technical engineering assistance related to design management activities for transportation, environmental, traffic and stormwater projects throughout Marion County. Incumbent requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgment. Critical and often-times swift decisions will have to be made; decisions can impact the City of Indianapolis, City officials and policies. Position reports to Chief Engineer.

Essential functions are regularly performed in an office setting without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Exposure to adverse environmental conditions associated with construction sites.

Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications

Technical degree/certification or five plus (5+) years of related work experience is required. The position requires extensive knowledge of City, State, and FHWA policies and specifications as they relate to construction of City infrastructure. The position requires excellent oral and written skills in addition to excellent conflict resolution skills. Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications

Possession of Professional Engineer license in the state of Indiana is preferred, but not required.
