Job summary

The City of Saint Paul is seeking a Solid Waste Services Crew Leader to supervise and coordinate daily solid waste collection operations across the city. This role blends hands-on field work with crew leadership, equipment oversight, and customer service to support clean, efficient city services.

Responsibilities include directing assignments, training staff, reporting operations, maintaining DOT compliance, and operating city vehicles.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a Solid Waste Services Worker.
• Valid Minnesota CDL (Class A or B) with air brake endorsement.
• Clean driving record with no CDL suspensions or revocations in the past two years.
• Ability to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen and participate in random DOT drug and alcohol testing.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 100 pounds.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather and respond to emergencies, overtime, and after-hours service calls.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily work assignments for solid waste collection crews.
• Train, orient, and support crew members.
• Complete daily reports and operational documentation.
• Monitor equipment maintenance needs and recommend repairs or replacements.
• Operate garbage trucks, skid steers, and other City vehicles.
• Collect garbage, yard waste, bulky items, and maintain collection routes.
• Deliver, repair, and inventory garbage carts.
• Conduct required vehicle inspections and maintain DOT compliance.
• Respond to resident questions and provide excellent customer service.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to emergencies, overtime, and after-hours service calls as needed.
