Job summary

The City of University City is seeking a Crew Leader - Sanitation to supervise a waste-removal crew, plan daily work, and ensure safety compliance. The role requires hands-on leadership, equipment operation, and timely completion of sanitation projects to meet city standards.

You'll oversee trucks and machinery, mentor staff, and coordinate schedules while maintaining high safety and service quality for residents. This onsite, full-time position offers benefits and career growth with the City.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent certification.
• Between one and three years of experience in Solid Waste Removal.
• Hazardous Material Certification required after 6 months of employment.
• Familiarity with plastics HDPE #1/#2, PET plastic, shrink wraps and Styrofoam.
• Experience supervising labor crews and operating equipment.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in Solid Waste Removal.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and equipment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to multitask with strong organizational skills.
• Valid, current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a crew in solid waste removal, scheduling, training, and mentoring.
• Operate and oversee equipment including trucks, heavy machinery, and hand tools.
• Plan and organize daily work ensuring crews, equipment, and materials are ready.
• Assign jobs and manage schedules to meet City standards.
• Inspect completed work and address issues or resident concerns.
