Pay range: $21.00-24.50, based on experience

Hours:M-Th 5:45am-3:15pm, F 5:45am-12:00pm

Position Summary

The Solder Machine Team Leader is responsible for leading the daily operation of wave and selective solder production lines used to manufacture printed circuit board assemblies. This working leadership position sets up, programs, operates, and monitors soldering equipment while providing direction, training, and support to other solder machine operators.

The Team Leader helps coordinate production priorities, assigns work, monitors product quality, and ensures equipment is operated safely and efficiently. Previous wave or selective solder experience is preferred; however, the company is willing to train a dependable individual who demonstrates leadership ability, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and support the daily activities of wave and selective solder machine operators.
• Coordinate work assignments and production priorities based on the manufacturing schedule.
• Set up, program, operate, and monitor wave and selective solder machines.
• Assist operators with machine setups, product changeovers, programming, troubleshooting, and process adjustments.
• Verify that operators are using the correct programs, tooling, fixtures, materials, and production documentation.
• Ensure production lines are properly staffed and communicate personnel or scheduling concerns to management.
• Monitor workflow and help move employees or resources between soldering lines as production needs change.
• Review drawings, bills of material, work instructions, and production documentation before beginning a job.
• Adjust approved process parameters, including conveyor speed, solder temperature, flux application, preheat settings, solder pot height, and solder nozzle position.
• Create and modify selective solder programs after completing the required training and receiving authorization.
• Monitor machine performance and production output to ensure soldering processes remain stable and efficient.
• Inspect circuit boards for solder bridges, insufficient solder, excess solder, opens, icicles, damaged components, and other workmanship defects.
• Verify component placement, orientation, polarity, and seating before and after soldering.
• Respond to machine alarms, process issues, repeated defects, and production delays.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate additional support from Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, or Production Management when necessary.
• Ensure operators complete required production, process, quality, material, maintenance, and traceability records accurately.
• Confirm that nonconforming products are properly identified and controlled.
• Train new and existing employees in machine operation, product setup, safety requirements, quality expectations, and company procedures.
• Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, guidance, and feedback.
• Report performance, attendance, conduct, safety, and training concerns to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
• Assist with product changeovers and the installation of fixtures, nozzles, tooling, and materials.
• Monitor solder, flux, nitrogen, and other process materials to prevent production interruptions.
• Ensure required equipment cleaning and routine operator maintenance are completed and documented.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized soldering areas.
• Enforce ESD controls, machine-guarding requirements, chemical-handling procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Promote teamwork, quality, productivity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day direction to employees working on assigned solder machine lines.
• Assign tasks and communicate production priorities clearly.
• Monitor employee training and verify competency before employees work independently.
• Support operators in resolving equipment, material, quality, and workflow problems.
• Escalate significant production, personnel, safety, quality, or equipment concerns to management.
• Help ensure production goals are met without compromising safety or product quality.
• Lead by example by following all company policies and maintaining professional conduct.
• Participate in production meetings and communicate relevant information to team members.
• Recommend improvements to equipment, processes, training, documentation, and workflow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous wave solder, selective solder, electronics assembly, machine operation, or manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Previous team-lead or leadership experience is helpful.
• Basic mechanical, computer, programming, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify soldering and assembly defects.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, bills of material, and machine setup documentation.
• Ability to learn machine programming and process-control requirements.
• Ability to organize work, manage changing priorities, and provide clear direction to others.
• Ability to train employees and communicate effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance personnel.
• Good decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Ability to work safely around heated equipment, molten solder, flux, and moving machinery.
• Dependable attendance and a willingness to learn are required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in an electronic manufacturing environment around automated soldering equipment.
• The position requires working near heated surfaces, molten solder, flux fumes, chemicals, and moving machine components.
• Regular use of computers, tools, fixtures, cleaning materials, and production equipment is required.
• The position may require extended periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and monitoring multiple production lines.
• Must have sufficient visual ability, with or without corrective lenses, to inspect solder joints, component placement, and machine operation.
• Must be able to handle printed circuit boards, fixtures, soldering materials, and machine tooling safely.
• Must follow ESD, chemical-handling, machine-guarding, ventilation, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• May occasionally be required to lift or move materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

Training

The company will provide training in wave and selective solder machine operation, programming, product setup, process controls, equipment cleaning, routine maintenance, defect recognition, leadership responsibilities, ESD controls, chemical handling, safety requirements, applicable IPC workmanship standards, and company manufacturing procedures. The employee must successfully complete required training and demonstrate the ability to lead assigned production lines and operate the equipment safely and accurately.
