Job summary

Kimmel & Associates is seeking a Project Engineer – Solar + Energy Storage to support development and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects from early development through construction and commercial operations.

Ideal for an Electrical Engineer with experience in large solar or solar+storage, collaborating with development, engineering, procurement, construction, utilities, consultants, and leadership to ensure technically sound project execution and optimize economics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines with utility-scale experience may qualify.
• Approximately 4–12 years of engineering experience in utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, or renewable energy projects.
• Experience covering greenfield development through EPC, commissioning and operations.
• Strong understanding of utility-scale solar PV systems and battery energy storage technologies.
• Experience leading technical due diligence activities for renewable energy projects.
• Experience writing engineering specs, drawings, contract exhibits, and EPC documentation.
• Experience supporting EPC contractor selection and engineering oversight during construction.
• Knowledge of high‑voltage electrical systems and major equipment procurement.
• Experience with utility interconnection activities, coordinating with utilities, ISOs, and transmission providers.
• Familiarity with LGIA, interconnection studies, and utility coordination processes is desirable.
• Stable employment history showing progressive career growth.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support throughout the full project lifecycle from greenfield development to commercial operation.
• Lead technical due diligence for utility-scale solar and storage projects.
• Develop engineering specifications, one-line diagrams, technical exhibits, and EPC documentation.
• Coordinate engineering activities during project execution, reviews, and design optimization.
• Evaluate engineering options to improve performance, constructability, and economics.
• Support EPC contractor selection by reviewing proposals and participating in contracting.
• Assist with specification, evaluation, and procurement of major electrical equipment including HV systems.
• Coordinate integration between owner-furnished and EPC‑provided systems.
• Support utility interconnection activities with utilities and ISOs.
• Assist with interconnection agreements, studies, and transmission requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver on schedule and budget while meeting standards.
