Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams in a banking/financial services context. You will drive modernization, cloud-native Java applications, and risk-aware architecture in a global delivery model.

Lead with Agile and DevOps practices, mentor engineers, and partner with cross-functional leaders to shape technical strategy, roadmaps, and performance outcomes across distributed platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
• 2+ years of Leadership experience.
• 3+ years of Java experience.
• 3+ years of Spring ecosystem experience.
• 2+ years of Messaging experience (Kafka/JMS).
• 2+ years building distributed platforms.
• 2+ years container orchestration experience (OpenShift, PCF, AWS).

• Practical AI/GenAI expertise to boost productivity.
• Experience leading global delivery teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage, coach, and develop software engineering teams and managers.
• Ensure adherence to Banking Platform Architecture and non-functional requirements.
• Engage with architects on technical strategies and migrations.
• Represent the product technically in cross-team planning.
• Identify and resolve roadblocks in code, build, and deployment.
• Oversee the software development cycle and security standards.
• Act as escalation partner for scrum masters, removing impediments.
• Build engineering skills, conduct peer reviews, and guide design.
• Ensure security, stability, and scalability while mitigating risk.
• Collaborate with Product Managers on requirements, roadmap, strategy.
• Advocate agile and DevOps practices.
• Interact with vendors and technology service providers.
• Manage people and financial resources, career development, performance.
• Hire, mentor, and guide direct reports and talent development.

Responsibilities

• Manage, coach, and develop software engineering teams and less experienced managers
• Ensure adherence to Banking Platform Architecture and non-functional requirements
• Engage with architects and experienced engineers on technical strategies and application migration paths
• Represent the product technically in cross-team collaboration and planning
• Identify and resolve technology roadblocks involving code, build, and deployment
• Manage the software development cycle and security standards
• Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and teams, removing impediments and encouraging continual improvement
• Build engineering skills in the codebase, conduct peer reviews, and guide design
• Ensure security, stability, and scalability while managing and mitigating technology and enterprise risk
• Collaborate with Product Managers/Product Owners on user satisfaction, technology requirements, roadmap priorities, and technical strategy
• Advocate for agile and DevOps practices
• Interact with third-party vendors and technology service providers
• Manage people and financial resources, career development, and performance management
• Hire, mentor, and guide direct reports and talent development

Requirements

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
• 2+ years of Leadership experience
• 3+ years of Java experience
• 3+ years of Spring Eco System experience such as Spring Boot and Hibernate
• 2+ years of Messaging experience such as Kafka and JMS
• 2+ years of experience building distributed platforms
• 2+ years of experience with container orchestration platforms such as OpenShift Container Platform, Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), and AWS
• Expertise in building distributed platforms for risk and valuation
• Experience driving modernization efforts
• Proven experience building cloud-native applications using Java or similar technologies
• Practical expertise in AI and Generative AI, with demonstrated use of AI/GenAI tools to enhance productivity or optimize engineering workflows
• Experience leading and collaborating with global delivery teams in a matrixed environment
• Banking/Lending/Brokerage and financial markets experience
• Vendor management
• Scrum/Agile experience
