Job summary

Per Scholas in Columbus, OH invites applications for a Software Engineering Instructor to deliver high-end software training to underemployed and unemployed community residents. The role requires adaptability, collaboration with peers, and alignment with program policies and strategic goals.

The instructor will prepare curricula, assess student progress, and mentor learners while coordinating with the Career Advance team to connect graduates with opportunities and volunteers from the tech

Qualifications

• You have at least 2+ years of experience working on a software development team.
• Experience with front-end and back-end development; fluent in HTML5 and CSS3.
• Proficiency with at least one JS MV* framework (Angular, Backbone, or React).
• SQL databases (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) experience.
• Express/Node.js experience.
• A Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
• Experience with curriculum, syllabus development, and lesson planning.
• Experience with student assessment; and a talent to continuously evaluate the curriculum to identify what is working and what improvements can be made.
• Qualified candidates must be able to comfortably and frequently lift 50lbs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver technology skills training and assessments to prepare students for entry-level to mid-level careers in software development.
• Be adept in learning new software tools, languages, and technologies as needed.
• Work closely with the team to identify student needs and establish individualized plans.
• Tutor students as needed.
• Collaborate with Career Advance to support alumni and volunteers.
• Maintain Salesforce database with student scores and attendance.
• Recommend students for employment opportunities with Career Advancement.
• Enforce attendance and program policies and prepare termination letters when needed.
• Connect students with resources to overcome barriers to success.
• Create, submit and maintain training curricula for approval and school files.
• Work with Program Design to create student content on the PS Academy.
• Prepare lessons and materials weekly using PS curriculum content.
• Partner with co-instructors to provide timely feedback on progress.
