Who We Are Looking For

Per Scholas is seeking a Technical Instructor to deliver high‑end technical training to underemployed and unemployed community residents for the purpose of higher economic development and improvement of quality of life. The Technical Instructor must be self‑directed, self‑motivated, and comfortable making intermediate‑level decisions to adapt processes and curriculum delivery based on current conditions. The instructor works in collaboration with peers, learner support staff, and the Managing Director to change policies, procedures, and strategic planning.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver technology skills training and assessments to prepare students for entry‑level to mid‑level careers in software development, including daily instruction, assessment administration, attendance, one‑on‑one tutoring, evaluation, and monitoring of student progress.
  • Be adept at learning new software tools, languages, and technologies as needed.
  • Work closely with the team to identify student needs, provide the necessary support, and establish individualized plans for student achievement.
  • Tutor students as needed.
  • Work with Career Advance team to ensure alumni are completing additional requirements.
  • Maintain Salesforce database with student scores and attendance.
  • Work with Career Advancement team to ensure volunteers from the business community interact with students as classroom speakers, mentors, and small group coaches.
  • Work with Career Advancement team to recommend students for particular employment opportunities.
  • Monitor student compliance with attendance and other program policies and address violations with students consistently. Work with the Manager, Career Advancement to ensure documents such as probationary and termination letters are prepared and delivered.
  • Connect students with the resources necessary to overcome individual barriers to success in school.
  • Create, submit, and maintain training curricula for approval and school files.
  • Work closely with the Program Design team to create student content for the PS Academy.
  • Commit a few hours per week to preparing lessons and materials, leveraging existing PS curriculum content.
  • Work closely with co‑instructors or teaching assistants to provide students with meaningful and prompt feedback on their progress.
What You’ll Bring to Us

Professional Requirements

  • You have at least 2+ years of experience working on a software development team.
  • You have working experience in both front‑end and back‑end development, and are fluent in:
    • HTML5 and CSS3
    • Full‑stack JavaScript (strong JavaScript highly preferred)
    • At least one JS MV* framework (Angular, Backbone, or React preferred)
    • SQL databases (we generally use PostgreSQL)
    • NoSQL (we generally cover MongoDB)
    • Express/Node.j
  • A Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with curriculum, syllabus development, and lesson planning.
  • Experience with student assessment; and a talent to continuously evaluate the curriculum to identify what is working and what improvements can be made.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to comfortably and frequently lift 50lbs.

Salary

Target salary: $70,000 per year, with a range between $65,000 and $75,000. The difference in salary is typically determined by geography and alignment with qualifications and experience.

Holidays & PTO: Full‑time team members enjoy over 40 days of paid time off each year through a mix of holidays, vacation, and sick/personal time. Employees are eligible for holiday pay upon hire, a total of 22 holidays annually, including a week off for Independence Day and a week before the New Year. Full‑time benefits‑eligible employees also receive 80 wellness hours for sick, safe, or personal reasons and accrue vacation at a rate of 8 hours at the beginning of every month, supporting rest, recharge, and work‑life balance. Vacation accruals increase with tenure. Part‑time employees receive time off on a prorated basis as per local requirements.

Comprehensive Medical Coverage: Benefit‑eligible employees can choose from multiple medical plans through Cigna or Kaiser Permanente (where available), with options to fit their needs. Employees also have access to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) that reimburses eligible out‑of‑pocket expenses, up to $4,000 for individuals and $8,000 for families.

Dental and Vision Insurance: Eligible employees can select from two dental plan options and a vision plan. Employees who waive medical coverage receive employer‑paid dental and vision premiums.

Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with a 100% employer match on contributions up to 6%. Eligible employees are offered entry and full vesting after 90 days.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Free, confidential, 24/7 access to counseling, legal support, and financial resources for employees and their household members.

Parental Leave: Eligible employees are offered up to 6 weeks of 100% paid parental leave.
