Description

The Digital Modernization Sector has a career opportunity for an SDN Software Developer supporting the Global Solutions Management – Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at DISA. This contract includes the operations, sustainment, maintenance, repair, and defense of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) within the DOD Information Network (DODIN), supporting the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). It also involves supporting DISA’s transformation through innovation and collaboration with mission partners.

Note: While this role is primarily remote, candidates must reside within commuting distance to Scott AFB, IL, or Ft. Meade, MD for on-site support.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, developing, testing, deploying, troubleshooting, and managing incidents/problems related to SDN components.
• Design, develop, document, test, and deploy software in Python and Java on the Cisco Network Services Orchestrator (NSO) platform.
• Develop network orchestration workflows on the Itential Automation Platform.
• Integrate software with network devices such as Cisco ASR9K and Juniper MX series routers.
• Create automated tests using tools like Ansible, Selenium, JMeter, Junit.
• Build automated CI/CD pipelines with CloudBees/Jenkins, Artifactory, OpenShift/Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, and Bitbucket.
• Collaborate with an Agile team, participate in daily scrums, and demonstrate working software, even remotely.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system and infrastructure issues proactively.
• Identify, report, monitor, and mitigate technical risks independently.
• Communicate effectively with team members to achieve project goals.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field with 2-4 years of experience or Master’s with less than 2 years of experience.
• Active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Ability to obtain DOD 8570 IAT level II security certification (e.g., Security+ CE or CISSP) within 14 days of start.
• Experience in backend Java and Python development, including JSON/REST web services.
• Proficiency with Git/Bitbucket and Linux platform software development.
• Strong communication skills for virtual teamwork.
• Knowledge of Software Engineering principles, theories, and concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience across the full software lifecycle, including deployment to production.
• Agile development experience and ability to learn new technologies rapidly.
• Software analysis, design, and API integration skills.
• Experience with SDN, Cisco NSO, Itential, and network protocols like BGP, MPLS, VPLS, Pseudowires, QoS.
• Developing with YANG, NETCONF, RESTCONF protocols.
• Automated testing and DevOps pipeline experience with relevant tools.
• Web development skills with HTML, JavaScript, React.
• Experience with Atlassian tools, remote team collaboration, and DoD security standards.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $67,600 - $122,200. Compensation depends on responsibilities, experience, skills, and other factors.
