The Solution Architect will be a part of a multifaceted, matrixed, and integrated innovations team, supporting a large, complex, and innovative AWS cloud-based solution.
The Solution Architect will establish strategic solution vision and design, create complex solution architectures, define requirements, and author design documentation and related technical artifacts that drive current and future program results, improving efficiency within the program and delivering improvements to service delivery to the customer. They will work closely with the Chief Architect, engineering leads, and customer stakeholders. The Solution Architect will own solution design, engage with all technical teams on the program, establish logical and physical architectures, lead technical designs, determine priorities, scope additional work, oversee planning and development of capabilities, and lead the resolution of complex technical challenges.
Additionally, the Solution Architect will support new business development activities, such as engaging with stakeholders and leadership to shape new business opportunities, authoring whitepapers and RFI responses, conducting trade studies, and analyzing alternatives, while proposing innovative solutions aligned with strategic objectives. They will also respond to requests to estimate cost, timeline, and effort, and refine scope of work by developing relevant artifacts. Regular communication with individuals across roles and levels, including executive leadership, is essential.
This position is primarily remote; however, travel to GSM-O sites is required when necessary, and candidates must be within commuting distance to Fort Meade, MD.
Architecture and Design
- Own the solution architecture of a large, cloud-based operations support system platform, responsible for architecture, design, and implementation of innovative technical solutions for the GSM-O program.
- Lead architectural design and technical planning, including roadmap development and implementation of modern techniques and technologies such as Cloud (AWS), SDN, AIOps, AI/ML, Elasticsearch, and Kafka.
- Develop and maintain complex solution architectures and design documentation, ensure alignment with strategic objectives, integrate new technologies, and evaluate tools for high-quality delivery. Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Support innovation planning, research, architecture, and design development across the portfolio, analyzing government customer requirements to develop system specifications.
- Gather data, define requirements, develop use cases, perform gap and dependency analysis, develop specifications, and contribute to new solutions and standards to meet project objectives.
- Facilitate problem-solving to manage risks, remove impediments, drive continuous improvement, validate system properties, and enable early feedback.
- Own the resolution of complex technical challenges, leveraging expertise and problem-solving skills.
- Perform technical planning, system integration, verification, validation, cost/risk analysis, and supportability assessments for systems across DISN and GSM-O.
- Evaluate new technologies, platforms, or enhancements to expand or improve the GSMO-II program.
- Support the design, implementation, and testing of infrastructure as code, and author and execute user acceptance strategies and scripts for deployment.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including customers, vendors, and government personnel, to define solutions, resolve dependencies, and drive positive change.
- Work with leadership to define priorities, establish architectures, and lead technical designs.
- Conduct senior-level presentations, briefings, and interface with government customers to communicate solutions, status, and issues.
- Maintain regular communication across roles and levels, including executives, to ensure alignment.
- Coordinate with colleagues and stakeholders to monitor and resolve technical variances and issues.
- Negotiate project scope, timelines, and budgets, and resolve challenges through planning adjustments.
- Guide customers in requirements formulation, advise on approaches, and conduct feasibility studies.
Growth
- Conduct trade studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses to improve service delivery.
- Support proposal development and cost estimation for new capabilities and enhancements.
- Engage with stakeholders to support business development, including authoring whitepapers and RFI responses, and conducting analyses.
- Estimate costs, timelines, and efforts, and refine scopes to meet customer needs.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure solutions follow industry standards and best practices.
- Require a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with 12+ years, or a Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience. Experience may substitute for degree.
- Experience in strategy development, architecture, and delivery of data-driven capabilities in a DoD environment.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and lead technological change.
- Strong breadth and depth in government network design, implementation, operations, and modernization.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals and designing network solutions.
- Experience architecting large-scale cloud-native solutions with security standards.
- Experience with data architectures, pipelines, front-end technologies, UI/UX, Agile DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and programming languages.
- Proven leadership in contract performance, technical leadership, and customer relations.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in cloud, distributed systems, microservices, and networking concepts.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA and Confluence.
- Active Secret security clearance required.
- Ability to travel (<15%) and work extended hours at times.
