Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a software engineer to maintain and develop mission-critical software for cryogenic spacecraft fueling in a regulated aerospace environment.

You will collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, QA, and Automation in an Agile team, delivering real-time software for ground support equipment and launch operations. Strong C/C++, RT-Linux, and secure software practices are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience working on an agile development team.
  • Experience independently designing, developing, and delivering solutions to difficult software/hardware problems.
  • Experience presenting hardware/software system architecture and designs to internal audiences and external customers.
  • Experience authoring, executing, and reviewing software products throughout the full software development life cycle.
  • Experience with object-oriented designs and languages.
  • Experience with C/C++.
  • Experience with Software Configuration Management practices.
  • Experience with Agile Methodologies.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience with Software Design Principles.
  • Experience with Configuration Management practices and tools such as Git.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined in ITAR 22 CFR 120.62.
  • Preferred: experience designing and architecting software for complex solutions.
  • Preferred: experience serving as a technical lead on software development efforts.
  • Preferred: experience providing guidance, training, or mentoring to less experienced engineers.
  • Preferred: experience with Python.
  • Preferred: experience with real-time Linux-based operating systems.
  • Preferred: expertise with timing-critical hardware and software systems.
  • Preferred: experience with secure software development practices.
  • Preferred: experience with command and control software for ground support equipment, industrial control systems, or similar safety-critical applications.
  • Preferred: experience in the aerospace, launch, or defense industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop new software products for cryogenic spacecraft fueling.
  • Implement modern design principles and concepts.
  • Provide solutions to difficult technical problems.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Technology Architects, QA, and Automation team members in an Agile environment.
  • Support the Ground Software Fluids team with technical leadership and hands-on development.
  • Deliver operational and enabling capabilities meeting hard real-time requirements for command and control of propulsion and electrical ground support equipment systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance or training to less experienced engineers.
  • Potentially serve in Authorized Systems Engineer (ASE) responsibilities.
  • Help ensure delivery of mission-critical software used during launch vehicle manufacturing, preflight testing, and launch countdown.
  • Support launch events by remotely shadowing launch operations teams.
  • Design, develop, operate, and maintain software, firmware, and computing systems software.
  • Integrate software with engineering, scientific, and manufacturing systems.
  • Take ownership of specific programs and projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Apply standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Generate engineering applications and products including display systems, mechanical control systems, and electrical control systems used to operate rockets.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, application users, and technical and support personnel
