Job summary

Culper Technology, a defense-focused engineering firm, seeks a Software Engineer to join the Data Warehouse Platforms Engineering Shared Services & Software Development team. You will design, develop, integrate, and sustain software across large-scale compute environments, focusing on Agile practices and integration with COTS/GOTS products.

You will analyze complex problems, mentor junior engineers, and support CI/CD, monitoring, and on-call duties while advancing secure, scalable solutions

Qualifications

• US Citizenship with active TS/SCI clearance and Polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 14+ years of software engineering experience on similar programs.
• Strong Java for distributed systems and multithreading.
• Experience with IaC tools (Ansible, Puppet).
• CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring experience.
• Agile methodologies and source code management.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain software for large-scale compute environments.
• Troubleshoot complex issues while ensuring operational stability.
• Develop solutions that extend COTS/GOTS products.
• Conduct code and architecture reviews; evaluate technical designs.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation and process enhancements.
• Provide mentorship to junior developers.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and deployments.
• Participate in rotating Tier III on-call and mission surge activities.

About the role

• We are seeking aSoftware Engineerto support a product development team within the Data Warehouse Platforms Engineering Shared Services & Software Development organization. The ideal candidate will support the design, development, integration, and sustainment of software solutions deployed across large-scale compute environments.This role focuses onAgile software developmentand requires experience building, enhancing, and maintaining complex systems, including solutions that integrate or extend COTS and GOTS products. The successful candidate will work independently on technical challenges while providing guidance and support to junior engineers.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain software solutions supporting large-scale compute environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues while supporting operational stability.
• Develop solutions that integrate and extendCOTS/GOTS products.
• Conduct code reviews, architecture reviews, and evaluate technical designs for accuracy and completeness.
• Support continuous improvement through optimization, automation, and process enhancements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
• SupportCI/CD pipelines, operational monitoring, and software deployment activities.
• Participate in rotatingTier III on-call supportand mission surge activities as required.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenshipwith an activeTS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• 14+ years of Software Engineering experiencesupporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
• Bachelor’s degree inComputer Science or a related technical disciplinefrom an accredited college or university.
• Four additional years of Software Engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
• Strong experience developingJava applications for distributed systems, including networking and multithreading.
• Experience withInfrastructure as Code (IaC)tools such asAnsible or Puppet.
• Experience withContinuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, automated testing, and operational monitoring.
• Experience withAgile development methodologiesand source code management practices.
• Strong Linux fundamentals and experience with scripting languages such asPython, Ruby, or Perl.
• Experience withmicroservices architectures, containerization, and container orchestration platformssuch asKubernetes and Docker.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience withApache Hadoop, Accumulo, and NiFi.
• Experience withMongoDB and messaging systemssuch as ActiveMQ.
• Experience withSpring Framework, Python, and Bash scripting.
• Knowledge ofsecurity and compliance best practices.
• Experience supportingdata warehouses, analytics platforms, data flows, and presentation tools.
• Experience withAWS cloud technologies, hybrid cloud environments, and enterprise cloud solutions.
• Experience supporting large-scale distributed systems and mission-critical applications.

The pay range for this role is:

220,000 - 235,000 USD per year (Annapolis Junction, MD)
