What position are we hiring for (and what will they do)?
We are looking for a Software Engineer IV to work alongside a talented team of engineers and product managers in the design, development, testing, and deployment of CTM’s technical solutions.
As a Software Engineer IV, you should have deep technical expertise and be able to independently lead large, complex projects across multiple components, services, or teams. You should understand how technical decisions impact reliability, scalability, security, cost, and the customer experience.
At this level, you will provide technical leadership on significant projects, make sound technical decisions, manage dependencies and risks, and help other engineers solve challenging problems. You should be comfortable working through ambiguity, influencing decisions without direct authority, and balancing short-term delivery with the long-term health of our products and technology.
As a successful Software Engineer IV, you will:
- Lead the design and implementation of complex projects spanning multiple services, systems, or teams
- Make sound technical and architectural decisions while balancing reliability, performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and cost
- Own testing, rollout, migration, observability, and operational readiness for complex projects
- Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code while setting a strong technical example for other engineers
- Diagnose complex technical and production issues and drive them through resolution.
- Own projects from planning through implementation, launch, and follow-up, including managing milestones, dependencies, and risks
- Coordinate with Engineering, Product, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment and drive projects forward
- Lead design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions for significant projects.
- Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, risks, and project status clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Influence technical and product decisions beyond your immediate team through strong technical judgment and business understanding
- Mentor engineers and emerging technical leaders through planning, design, implementation, reviews, and feedback
- Improve engineering practices, technical quality, documentation, and knowledge sharing while identifying opportunities to simplify and improve customer outcomes
What skills will help you be effective on our team?
- 6+ years of software development experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining production software, or equivalent experience demonstrating the technical expertise expected at this level
- BS in Computer Science, Math, or another analytical discipline is preferred, but not required
- Strong technical and architectural problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate tradeoffs and make sound decisions
- Experience independently leading complex or ambiguous technical projects from planning through launch and follow-up
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, integrations, databases, infrastructure, and large-scale web applications
- Strong understanding of software quality, reliability, security, scalability, observability, and maintainability
- Ability to manage technical risks, dependencies, and changing priorities while keeping stakeholders aligned
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts and influence decisions across teams
- Ability to mentor engineers and emerging technical leaders
- Ability to influence architecture, engineering practices, and technical direction beyond your immediate team
- Strong understanding of how technical decisions connect to product, customer, and business goals
- Passion for continuous improvement, exploring new technologies, and finding simpler, more effective solutions
- Large-scale web application experience and a GitHub, Bitbucket, or GitLab portfolio are a plus
- Always hacking and exploring new technologies

- The expected salary range for this role may differ based upon the candidate. Salary presented with a job offer will be based on factors such as calibrated job level, educational background, prior work experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role

- We offer a hybrid work schedule with Mondays and Fridays as our work from home days. Once an employee reaches 5 years of service, they are eligible for Summer Fridays

- 2 work from anywhere weeks per year, with additional weeks earned with tenure
