Job summary

The Nuclear Company in Washington DC is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to contribute to NOS, the Nuclear Operating System, and help build AI-powered features for regulatory automation, cost and schedule tooling, and data integrations. You will work alongside full-time engineers and nuclear experts, delivering production-ready features during a six-month term.

Based in DC, the role offers on-site work five days a week with housing and relocation support for co-ops outside the DC metro

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
• Available for a full six-month term and returning to school afterward.
• Strong programming fundamentals in at least one modern language (Python, TypeScript, Java, Go, Rust, or C++).
• Track record of shipping working software (course projects, personal projects, internships or co-ops).
• This position requires U.S. export controls access; U.S. Person status is required; visa sponsorship is not provided.
• Willing and able to work on-site in Washington DC, five days a week, for the full six-month term.

Responsibilities

• Build new features and modules within NOS: regulatory automation, cost and schedule, supply chain, and the commercial portal.
• Develop AI-powered features: LLM- and agent-backed features, retrieval-augmented generation, and tool-calling against internal systems.
• Develop data integrations across Palantir Foundry, AWS GovCloud, and more.
• Convert prototypes into production-grade features and build field deployment tooling.
• Build automated testing and compliance infrastructure for NOS audit readiness.
