Job summary

Walmart Distribution Center is seeking a Software Engineer III to lead the design and development of scalable software solutions. You will collaborate across product, UX, and engineering to deliver high-quality, secure code and optimize system performance.

You will guide small teams, implement telemetry, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring alignment with SLAs and operational excellence across Walmart markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field and 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Alternatively, 4 years of software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
• Strong Java and big data experience with Spark and cloud platforms (GCP/Azure).
• Experience with API design, platforms, and telemetry for monitoring.

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

As a Software Engineer III, you will lead the design and development of scalable software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management and user experience. You will troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes to enhance system performance. This role involves managing projects from requirements gathering through coding, testing, and deployment while ensuring adherence to quality and security standards. You will also provide technical guidance to small engineering teams and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that drive innovation and operational excellence.

About the team: The team serves as the primary technical liaison between Level 1 Support and Core Engineering (Level 3), focusing on enhancing turnaround times for support queries requiring engineering input. It aims to improve incident resolution and SLA adherence while minimizing unplanned work for engineering teams. Operating globally across markets including the US, international regions, and Sam’s Club, the team emphasizes clear ownership, defined SLAs, and outcome-based metrics aligned with Walmart’s operational excellence standards. The team also strengthens problem management and operational readiness to ensure efficient and reliable service delivery.

What you'll do:

• Collaborate with product, project, business, and user experience teams to define high-level design and technical solutions for projects.
• Develop, test, and maintain code ensuring alignment with business and technical requirements, including security and scalability standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production and business issues through root cause analysis and coordinated action plans.
• Lead small engineering teams by providing guidance, documentation, and timelines to ensure successful project delivery.
• Create and execute test cases, perform defect analysis, and support continuous integration and deployment processes.
• Monitor application performance, implement telemetry, and drive improvements for sustained system reliability and efficiency.

What you'll bring:

• Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and software design principles.
• Strong technical acumen with experience in platform design, API development, and component services.
• Proficiency in iterative and incremental development methodologies and continuous integration/deployment practices.
• Ability to conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex production issues effectively.
• Experience with coding standards, debugging, and documentation-based coding practices.
• Familiarity with emerging technologies including generative artificial intelligence.
• Demonstrated capability in delivering scoped features and managing small to large-sized projects.
• Skilled in developing automated scripts and implementing telemetry for application monitoring.
• Essential: Expertise in Java, Big Data related technologies - spark, GCP / Azure working knowledge, Kafka,
• Good to have: Frontend skills - React.js and similar. Familiarity with Elastic / solr / Vector DB.
