Job summary

DoorDash Storage's Distributed Caching team runs 400 ElastiCache clusters and Boulder at scale, delivering billions of feature lookups. This hybrid role in SF/Seattle/NYC metro focuses on scaling caching, improving cost efficiency, and building self-serve tooling for workload-driven backends.

You will own cache/invalidation, sharding, and lock services, collaborating with Taulu, ML Platform, and product engineering across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of full-time experience designing, building, and operating distributed, stateful systems.
• Proficient in Go, or Java/Kotlin with deep expertise in concurrency, distributed systems, and production-grade backend services.
• Hands-on experience with distributed caching technologies (Redis/Valkey, Memcached, or similar) and understand their failure modes.
• Understanding of consistency models, sharding/partitioning, replication, and consensus.
• Experience with capacity planning and cost discipline at scale, and a bias for right-sizing.
• Proficiency using AI coding tools in the full software lifecycle (design, code, test, monitor, release).

Responsibilities

• Own high-leverage caching and locking services with direct, measurable customer impact: cost, latency, and reliability at multi million QPS scale.
• Build and scale Boulder, our KVRocks-backed key-value store, including compaction, sharding, and domain isolation.
• Re-platform the Distributed Lock Service onto a strongly consistent backend with sharding.
• Contribute to the standardized smart caching client with failover, retry, and observability defaults.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues spanning cache invalidation storms, replication lag, hot shards, and noisy-neighbor contention; turn fixes into guardrails.
• Collaborate with teams across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo.
