Job summary

DoorDash is seeking a Software Engineer to own caching and distributed storage services within the Storage organization. You will drive the evolution of Boulder, re‑platform the lock service, and ship self‑serve tooling and observability to support multi‑region, high‑scale workloads.

You’ll work on cache invalidation, replication, sharding, and failover, while building guardrails and automation for reliable operation at multi‑million QPS.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of full‑time experience designing, building, and operating distributed, stateful systems in production, with at least 2 years in caching or KV storage at scale.
• Proficiency in Go, or Java/Kotlin with strong concurrency and backend service expertise.
• Hands‑on experience with distributed caching technologies and understanding of failure modes (replication lag, failover, hot keys, cache invalidation).
• Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, sharding, replication, consensus) and trade‑offs.
• Experience in capacity planning and cost discipline at scale; ability to ship reliable infrastructure end to end.
• Proficiency with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) across the full software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Own high‑level caching and locking services with measurable customer impact (cost, latency, reliability).
• Build and scale Boulder (KVRocks back end) with compaction, sharding, and isolation.
• Re‑platform the Distributed Lock Service onto a strongly consistent backend with sharding.
• Contribute to a standardized smart caching client with built‑in failover and observability.
• Diagnose production issues and turn them into durable guardrails rather than quick fixes.
• Collaborate with teams building on caching, including Taulu, ML Platform, and product engineering across DoorDash, Wolt, Deliveroo.
