Job summary

The Landline Company seeks a Software Engineer to own the field software layer — the driver app and handheld tools used by frontline staff — and to connect booking, operations backend, and real-time data across a North American network.

You will ship fast fixes, work with airline partners, and help push agentic workflows, offline-first design, and IoT/telematics integration, with a travel-ready mindset.

Qualifications

• Build for spotty connectivity with offline-first instincts.
• Device and IoT integration with camera, barcode/NFC, GPS.
• Experience with telematics/IoT platforms and rugged devices is a plus.
• Modern web fluency in a Next.js/Vercel environment across the stack.
• Agentic or automation experience, including LLM-driven workflows or process automation.
• Secure-by-design mindset for data integrity and auditability.
• Forward-deployed work with users or operations teams in physical-ops business.
• Comfort with backend and frontend tasks when fixes live there.

Responsibilities

• Own the field software layer: the driver app and handheld tools used each shift.
• Design flows for offline use, glare, gloves, and one-handed operation.
• Integrate camera, barcode/NFC scanning, and GPS for verifiable field events.
• Integrate IoT and vehicle telematics to create a real-time operational picture.
• Work across the platform from booking to dispatch to keep tools and systems in sync.
• Push agentic workflows and explore LLM-driven tooling in dev and production.
• Deploy quickly: ride along with drivers and ship fixes within a week.
