Who are we hiring (and what will they do)?
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) III to work alongside a talented team of engineers and product managers in the design, testing, release, and ongoing improvement of CTM's technical solutions.
As an SDET III, you should continue to develop your technical testing skills and expertise while taking greater ownership of quality efforts that span multiple components, services, or teams. You should bring a passion for understanding complex systems, identifying meaningful product risk, and finding practical ways to improve quality. You should also be able to adapt to changing priorities, technologies, and challenges while helping others navigate them as well.
In this role, you will be expected to own quality efforts from planning through launch, identify and communicate risks and dependencies, collaborate with teammates and stakeholders, contribute to technical and product decisions, and help raise the quality of both our platform and testing practices.
As a successful SDET III, you will:
- Lead the quality strategy and execution for moderately complex projects spanning multiple components or services
- Design clear, maintainable manual and automated testing approaches while considering reliability, security, performance, accessibility, and scalability
- Build and maintain automated test frameworks, reusable test libraries, and tools that improve test coverage, reliability, and scalability
- Develop and improve automated testing within CI/CD pipelines, including API, integration, and end-to-end testing
- Develop risk-based test strategies that account for integration points, data flows, failure scenarios, observability, and safe releases
- Use systematic investigation and debugging to diagnose cross-service quality issues and drive them through resolution
- Own quality efforts from requirements and design through test execution, launch readiness, production validation, and follow-up
- Break ambiguous testing work into clear milestones, identify dependencies, and manage quality risks and blockers
- Coordinate with Engineering, Product, Support, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment and drive quality work forward
- Communicate quality decisions, tradeoffs, project status, and risks clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Contribute to design reviews, test-automation code reviews, technical discussions, and project planning
- Mentor less-experienced QA engineers through pairing, test reviews, automation guidance, planning, and feedback, as we grow
- Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and improvements to quality engineering practices and processes
- Take accountability for quality outcomes while balancing delivery, reliability, security, maintainability, and customer impact
What skills will help you be effective on our team?
- 5+ years of software quality assurance or testing experience, with a track record of testing and improving software in a professional environment, or equivalent experience demonstrating the technical expertise expected at this level
- BS in Computer Science, Math, or another analytical discipline is preferred, but not required
- Strong software testing skills across web applications, services, data, and workflows, with experience combining functional, exploratory, regression, and integration testing
- Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks and reusable testing tools
- Experience testing APIs, integrations, and services across complex applications
- Strong technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex cross-service issues and evaluate testing and product tradeoffs
- Project ownership and planning skills, with the ability to break ambiguous quality work into manageable milestones and drive projects through completion
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across Engineering, Product, Support, and other teams
- Ability to identify and manage quality risks, dependencies, and changing priorities while keeping stakeholders informed
- Strong test-automation skills using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium and a relevant programming language, with experience integrating tests into CI/CD workflows
- Strong understanding of software quality, including testability, maintainability, reliability, security, performance, accessibility, and observability
- Ability to mentor and support other QA engineers and teammates, while continuing to seek feedback and develop your own skills
- Passion for continuous improvement, with an interest in new technologies and finding ways to improve our products, processes, and quality practices
- Prior large-scale web application testing experience and a portfolio of testing or automation work are a plus
