Job summary

Powder House Ski Shop in Alta, Utah, is seeking a Softgoods Buyer for a full-time, in-person role. Compensation starts at $21/hour with additional interview discussions. The position is seasonal with a potential path to a year-round leadership role based on performance.

You will lead the softgoods department, work with the Head Buyer on seasonal purchasing, and help keep our stores stocked and organized. Approximately half the week is spent on the retail floor supervising staff and delivering

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of the softgoods department and supervise the retail team.
• Analyze sales and inventory to support seasonal purchasing decisions.
• Develop product assortments and prepare purchase orders.
• Communicate with vendors about orders, deliveries and availability.
• Monitor inventory and recommend replenishment based on trends.
• Receive, allocate and organize inventory across locations.
• Create appealing merchandising displays and maintain a neat sales floor.
• Train staff on product knowledge, merchandising and service.
• Maintain inventory accuracy, backstock and standards throughout the season.
• Coordinate employee parking permits and transportation logistics with Alta.

Powder House Ski Shop - Alta, Utah

Compensation: Starting wage is $21/hour. Additional compensation details will be discussed during the interview.

Schedule: Full-time (4 days/week, 10-hour shifts)

Location: Alta, Utah (In Person)

Seasonal Position: Opportunity to transition into a year-round leadership role based on performance and business needs.

About the Role

The Softgoods Buyer is a hybrid leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the softgoods department while working alongside the Head Buyer to plan and execute seasonal purchasing strategies. This role combines retail leadership, inventory planning, merchandising, sales analysis, vendor communication, and buying responsibilities to ensure our stores remain well-stocked, organized, and ready to serve skiers throughout the season.

Approximately half of your week will be spent leading the retail floor, supporting employees, and delivering exceptional customer service. The remaining time will focus on purchasing, sales reporting, inventory forecasting, merchandising, vendor relations, and department administration.

We're looking for someone who naturally takes initiative, enjoys making independent decisions, is highly organized, and can confidently manage multiple projects while helping lead a team.
