Job summary

Powder House Ski Shop in Alta, Utah is seeking a Hardgoods Buyer to lead the hardgoods department and partner with the Head Buyer on seasonal purchasing strategies. This hybrid leadership role blends retail leadership, inventory planning, merchandising, vendor relations, purchasing, sales analysis, and team leadership.

Approximately half the week is spent guiding daily operations, assisting customers with skis, bindings, and demo gear, while the rest focuses on inventory planning, PO management,

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of alpine ski equipment and bootfitting.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to lead a team.
• Experience in inventory planning and vendor communication.
• Comfort with data analysis and sales reporting.

• Oversee hardgoods department and support seasonal purchasing strategies.
• Lead daily retail operations, support staff, and assist customers with skis, bindings, demo gear, and tech recommendations.

Hardgoods Buyer

Powder House Ski Shop – Alta, Utah

Compensation: Starting wage is $21/hour. Additional compensation details will be discussed during the interview.

Schedule: Full-time (4 days/week, 10-hour shifts)

Location: Alta, Utah (In Person)

Seasonal Position with the opportunity to transition into a year-round leadership role based on performance and business needs.

About the Role

The Hardgoods Buyer is a hybrid leadership position responsible for overseeing the hardgoods department while working alongside the Head Buyer to execute seasonal purchasing strategies. This role combines retail leadership, inventory management, merchandising, vendor relations, purchasing, sales analysis, technical product knowledge, and team leadership.

Approximately half of your week will be spent leading daily retail operations, supporting employees, and helping customers with skis, bindings, demo equipment, and technical product recommendations. The remainder of your time will focus on inventory planning, purchase orders, vendor communication, demo fleet management, rental operations, sales reporting, and department administration.

We're looking for someone who naturally takes initiative, enjoys solving problems, and is confident making independent decisions. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of alpine ski equipment, strong bootfitting experience, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to lead a team while maintaining high standards for customer service, safety, and shop operations.
