Job summary

Mecklenburg County's Community Support Services (CSS) Social Worker I position is onsite and performs Coordinated Entry for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg homeless response. You will engage clients in person and by phone, assess needs, and connect them to shelters, temporary housing, or prevention resources.

Hours are Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with weekend or after-hours shifts possible. The role is HUD-funded with annual renewal; bilingual Spanish is highly preferred and county driving

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Social Work from an accredited school and one year of social work experience, or qualifying internship; or NC Collaborative program completion.
• Alternative: bachelor’s in a related field with 15 social work hours and two years of social work experience.
• Master’s degree in social work qualifies with one year of social work experience.
• License requirements include a valid NC or SC driver’s license and county driving privileges.

Responsibilities

• Assess needs of individuals and families and determine eligibility for financial assistance.
• Interview clients and collect family, social, and medical information.
• Provide counseling and services in individual and group settings.
• Refer clients to community resources and coordinate benefits and referrals.
• Develop and evaluate service plans with clients and perform follow-ups.
• Transport clients to appointments when appropriate and maintain confidential records.
