Job summary

The Salvation Army in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a full-time Social Services Assistant to prepare, complete, and process vouchers for eligible clients while supporting pantry operations and client services.

The role includes processing rent and utility assistance, handling client inquiries, and assisting with special projects. Requires a high school diploma and a valid driver license, with 35 hours per week in a morning-to-afternoon schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years' experience in a social or public service environment with experience assisting the public.
• Valid Driver License is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides client's with food from pantry; receives and stocks items donated for the pantry; maintains an itemized account of pantry disbursements and inventory.
• Processes rent and utility financial assistance for eligible clients; contacts utility organizations and landlords to arrange and process financial assistance.
• Answers telephone in a courteous and tactful manner; assists clients by providing accurate and complete information regarding the Social Service Program operations and/or services; assists public in locating missing persons.
• Performs related work for special and seasonal projects.
• Performs other related work as required.

Job Location: ALM-Birmingham AL Area Command - Birmingham, AL 35234, Position Type: Full Time Regular, Salary Range: $13.80 - $13.80 Hourly, Job Category: Social Services, Typical hours:Monday - Friday 8am- 4pm with a one hour lunch break. This is a 35 hour per week position.

This position is responsible for :

Prepares, completes, and processes food, clothing, and furniture vouchers for eligible clients.

Key Responsibilities :

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

What We Look For In You:
